In this article I take inspiration from the bible to investigate the spiritual meaning of orange in dreams, what that means for us in practical terms, and why I believe we are in a season of perseverance. We will explore its meaning in positive and negative contexts, with some real dream examples too! The symbolic nature of dreams Firstly, if you have just come across this post and are new to dream interpretation, it is worth mentioning that dreams are symbolic in nature.
You might find it helpful to read Dreams as parables and Symbolic language in dreams to give you a foundation. Secondly, remember that dreams are personal, so the meanings that I suggest may not apply to your specific dream. But please feel free to use my ideas as a springboard to thinking and praying about dreams yourself.
I approach dream interpretation from a biblical perspective. My belief is that our dreams can come from God , and understanding them is best understood within the context of an ongoing relationship with Him.
Orange all around As I write, it is early November and we have just passed Halloween. So for a while the shops were full of pumpkins and orange decorations.
There are many wonderful orange objects naturally occurring in our world. As well as pumpkins, there are oranges, carrots, satsumas and butternut squashes. I have some vibrant orange flowers on display in a vase; there are still some golden marigolds in the garden, and the autumn leaves are beautiful as they glint in the sunlight. Orange is a glorious colour! It invokes feelings of summer sunshine, happiness, and zest for life. Consider the context As with any dream symbol, each colour can potentially have both positive and negative meanings.
The context, feeling and atmosphere of a dream will give us clues to help us determine whether to interpret it in a positive or negative way. The colour orange seems so positive: full of joy and hope. But it can sometimes appear in a negative context too. In both aspects there is a sense of something enduring, whether for good or bad! This meaning has borne out in my own experience.
Positive context: Orange as perseverance Most commonly, when orange appears in dreams in a positive context, it represents perseverance. Perseverance carries a positive sense of not giving up; of patiently waiting; of keeping going despite everything.
Then I came across this article in mydreamstories. In Galatians 5, love is the most important fruit of the Spirit. It could also be because there is also a sense of us needing to persevere in order to see the fruit of our efforts.
In real life terms, the colour orange is an encouragement to keep going at a time when we feel like giving up. In the bible, perseverance always carries hope, for example: Hope that we will be transformed and changed for the better through the process. Hope that we will receive what we have been promised in the end, if we do not give up. Hope that we will see the fruit of our efforts in due time.
To illustrate, here are some scriptures: Hebrews …let us run with endurance the race that is set before us… Romans And endurance produces character, and character produces hope… Hebrews For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised. Galatians And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.
My companion pointed out that Mars was the colour orange. This dream was to encourage my friend to hold on and not lose hope. A difficult situation she was enduring seemed never-ending, but it would change in due time. God has always used the sky to speak about the times and seasons.
By highlighting the orange planet, the dream revealed she was in a season of perseverance. Note that is is saying that is will end, although it seems endless. A few months ago I dreamed that I wrote a blog post about the colour orange, and I could see its impact spreading out through the internet.
In my blog, I would need to persevere and be consistent. At the time I really needed the encouragement! The meaning could be literal, and this blog post about the colour orange will go viral!!
And it has given me motivation to keep going. Negative context: orange as stubbornness Sometimes orange appears in a negative context. We can tell this from the context of the dream. It could feel unpleasant, or we might think it is a horrible shade of orange. Or maybe the object has the potential to hurt us, like an orange snake or spider.
The negative meaning of orange is usually stubbornness. In other words, we are refusing to change, or have carried on down a particular path for longer than we should have. God is kind. So if we are resisting Him in some way without realising it, or have missed an opportunity, He will show us in a dream so we can change. Again, in this sense, if God highlights it to us in a dream, it means that He intends to set us free from it, and is inviting us to cooperate.
A very long orange snake was curled around the tree, almost down to its roots. God was going to set me free from a stronghold lie that had been in my life for a long time, nearly from the start.
This did actually happen that year. A snake is usually some sort of lie. The orange colour, combined with the length, indicated that this lie had been there for a long time, embedded in my worldview. From a friend: A baby snake with attractive orange markings came out of the grass and tried to bite me. I was told there would be a mummy nearby, and to get out of there.
I ran! This dream was telling her that it was time to leave her current situation, and not be tempted to delay. She had decided to leave her job, but out of kindness was thinking of staying a bit longer.
This dream confirmed the decision to leave soon. She now has a great new job! A few more possible meanings Amber light or traffic light: An orange or amber light is usually some sort of hazard warning. In traffic light signals it tells us to get ready, or to be on standby for either stopping or starting. A flashing amber light is nearly always a hazard warning — and tells us we need to be careful. Amber is similar to orange, but as a colour it has some meanings in its own right, and it appears in the bible.
It could be a topic for another time! Fire: Fire can sometimes appear orange. The context of the dream will tell you whether fire is the main point, or whether it is the colour orange that is important.
Pumpkins and Halloween: Pumpkins are orange coloured, but are also connected culturally with Halloween — and everything associated with that witchcraft etc. If orange appears in a dream in the context of Halloween, it will need to be interpreted accordingly.
A season of perseverance? But it has turned out to be more of a marathon instead. I feel as though we are now in the endurance phase, but if we persevere we will get through. So if you feel discouraged, keep going and keep your hopes up. In a negative sense orange generally symbolises stubbornness or longstanding issues, but brings with it the opportunity for change.
Here are a few closing thoughts: The colour orange in a dream could represent any number of things. The above ideas should give you a good starting point. I believe that only God can tell us what the colour means in a specific dream, so you could try asking Him!
Consider the atmosphere and context of the dream to see whether the colour is being used in a positive or negative sense. Read the follow up article: Could there be an encouragement hidden in the Mars rover landing? Find out in this follow up to my post on the colour orange. March 6,
Biblical Dream Dictionary
One of the prophets closely associated with dreams is Joel. When man sinned, the communication that existed between man and God broke. In the last days you shall expect to hear from God through dreams. Dreams and visions are an important part of the last days. Acts God has determined our exact time and place on earth. This technically refers to the country, city and even our place at present and future and not just the past.
Dreams are not valuable until their meaning is understood. God will individually design a dream for you and your personality to help you get to where you are going. Joel God will give you a dream when someone intends to harm you. We may know about God but how many of us know God intimately? Dream interpretation can come to anyone but if we want to be consistent and mature in it, we need to move from knowing about God to knowing the ways of God.
If God wants to speak to you, you need to know why He wants to speak to you. Acts f — An angel visits Peter in his cell. In dreams, there is a continuous interaction of heaven and earth. And in that, we need to understand how angels and people work together. How Do Heaven and Earth Interact? We need to understand the eternal nature of God. We need to understand the coexisting spiritual realm.
We need to think like heaven thinks. The Eternal Nature of God: This simply means that there has never been a time where God has not existed. Angels are not eternal. Angels were created and are everlasting. They did not exist before God created them. Hence they are not eternal. They may live forever but that is everlasting. We must not blur the lines between man and God or angels and God. Eternal is different from everlasting.
Which means there is never a time when I do not exist. There are 5 things that make God deity: — God is Immutable — unchanging. He never gains anything or loses anything — God is Omniscient. He is all knowing. He is everywhere. There is never a place where He does not exist. He does not get stronger or weaker. Time exists between the boundaries of God. God does not exist within time. Time began when God created the sun, moon and stars. But God was before that.
God is also after time and He is also now in time. God is not progressively eternal. God is ahead of time, looking back. God placed you here at this time because this is when you will have maximum impact and influence. Revelation — I am the alpha and the omega. It means He was already present at the beginning and He will be present after the end. Mathew — God is not the God of the dead but of the living.
But it also means that He is our God at this time. If God is not eternal, how did the meeting on the mount of transfiguration with Moses and Elijah happen? This would not have been possible if God is progressively eternal.
If He was progressively eternal, He would have had to leave the present, go back to the past and bring these prophets. But because He is eternal, He reached back into time and brought them. This can happen in your dream. Jesus the Lamb of God slain before the foundations of the world — this statement is possible because even before the formation of time, God knew that Jesus would be crucified.
Psalm 2. The Coexisting Spiritual World: There is an invisible world. Was the heavenly army there even before the servant saw it? Was the army there even before Elisha saw it?
Why were they there? They were there in order to protect Elisha because God did not want Elisha to die or to get hurt. Hence God sent this invisible army. The Spirit world is superior to the earthly world. Here we see that the spiritual world of God was able to strike the physical world with blindness.
God is able to protect you as well. Whether we see them or not, they are present there to help us. If we believe, God will send armies to help us. The Bible tells us we can talk to angels without even knowing it. Sometimes they come to us in earthly form and at other times in supernatural form. Angels can come to you in real life and in a dream. But they come for a reason. They come to help you do what God has called you to do. Ps They excel in strength. They cause things to happen on earth.
They have a strategy and arrange for things to happen. They do not obey human beings but only obey God. Hosts: They are different spirit beings. They have a different name and function. They seek to please God. They fulfill the pleasure of God. They are like the butlers of heaven. Watchers: They are mentioned only once in the Bible in Daniel 4. They are very powerful beings who observe, report, judge and decree sentences. What they decree cannot be changed.
Seraphims: They surround the throne of God. They continually cry holy, holy, holy. Their cry is so loud that it shakes the doorposts of heaven. They have 6 wings. They are mentioned twice in the scriptures. Cherubims: Mentioned 91 times in the Bible. They guard the Garden of Eden. They stand on either side of the throne. They have 4 wings. They are seen in the Ark of the Covenant. The colours mentioned in the scriptures are important as they relate to the colours we see in our dreams as well.
Every act that God does, an angel cries holy, holy, holy. God gives us spiritual gifts. They are used for specific purposes. They are to destroy the works of the evil one. Sickness comes from the evil one. So we pray for that to be destroyed.
A Dream Interpretation Exercise — Follow-up (Part 3)
What Does John Paul Jackson Say About Dreamin About Big Snakes?
This would be a mistake. God is perfect light, in Him is no shadow or darkness. James What I have found is, when the Lord is showing me something from HIM, these are the most vivid, colorful and memorable dreams. They leave me feeling excited, expectant for the future, in awe of what I saw and excited for what is to come.
When He is showing me plans of the enemy however, these dreams are dark dreams. They are, in a sense, spiritual warfare dreams, and they are characterised by muted color, or they are completely devoid of color and are totally grayscale or black and white.
THE MEANING OF COLORS IN DREAMS ACCORDING TO THE BIBLE
This does not mean that they are not from God — God is indeed revealing something to me, but He is making it plain to me that this is the plan of the enemy. The enemy is dark, there is no light in him. Thus the serpent can represent temptation, the devil, and deceit.
What do dreams really look like? Most dreams are predominantly visual, meaning that images are at the forefront of dreams, rather than other senses like smell or touch. While most people dream in color, some dreams are entirely in black and white. The less stressed you are, the more pleasant your dreams may be.
Adding It Up—What Do Numbers Mean In Dreams?
What to do if you see a snake? Leave it alone. If you see a snake inside your home, get all people and pets out of the room immediately. Shut the door and fill the gap underneath with a towel, then call a professional snake catcher for assistance. Why did God turn the staff into a snake? Why do I see snakes when I close my eyes? Closed-eye hallucinations are related to a scientific process called phosphenes. These occur as a result of the constant activity between neurons in the brain and your vision.
Even when your eyes are closed, you can experience phosphenes. What does the Bible say about snake bites? Snakes in houses may be there either accidentally for instance, washed in by flood waters or purposely to find prey or shelter.
They can become trapped inside and may die from lack of food or moisture if not captured and removed. Do mothballs keep snakes away? Mothballs are commonly thought to repel snakes, but they are not intended to be used this way and have little effect on snakes.
What does the snake represent in medicine? The snake figure was associated with Asclepios, the ancient Greek God of medicine, and possessed benevolent properties. It was believed to be able to cure a patient or a wounded person just by touch.

We will not only see messages in the dreams that we have at night, we will also be able to hear God speaking to us in an unlimited number of ways—through television, in the movies, street signs, names and even numbers.
Numbers When interpreting dreams, I put less emphasis on the meaning of numbers than I used to do when I first started out. One of the reasons for this is that there are so many conflicting dream symbol meanings for numbers.
